The waters of Anafi are crystalline and the beaches clean to a fault. The scenery is incredible on all the beaches and most of the southern coastal beaches have shrubbery down to the beach.
There are fifteen locations for a swim, picturesque Kleisidi is the most popular. To the east over 5,5 kilometers in turn are the beaches of Katsouni, Flamourou, Mikros Roukounas which have golden sands and are secluded. Megalos Roukounas is the most popular sand beach with a tavern. The small beach of Katalymatsa follows; next is Megas Potamos which is a pebble beach. Agii Anargyri after that is also a small beach well protected by the surrounding high cliffs. Last on the stretch is Prassies and are all the aforementioned are well protected from winds.
To the northeast are the Bay of Agios Georgios, Livoskopos, Vrisi and Halara all of which face the northern winds which can make swimming trying during the windy periods. To the northwest are the bays of Kalaggathi accessed by boat only, followed respectively by the beaches Prassa, Vagia and Kiparissi all strewn with boulders. The winds are strong here as well, although they only last for a week or so. Swimming at other remote sites that are inaccessible by car is also an option and nudity off season is acceptable.
